Umm Suqeim Beach

Umm Suqeim Beach is located near the famous Burj Al Arab hotel and offers a stunning view of this iconic hotel. Umm Suqeim Beach is also known as Sunset Beach due to its popularity as a spot to witness Dubai's sunset. It is the only beach in Dubai where you can capture breathtaking sunset photos with the Burj Al Arab in the frame. Hence, just before sunset, this beach can get quite crowded.

Beach Facilities

Umm Suqeim Beach is a public beach, free to visit 24/7. The beach provides ample changing rooms and showers to rinse off the sand. Lifeguards ensure the safety of beachgoers. For children, a playground is available, and a jogging path with a walking promenade and benches runs along the beach. Several restaurants on the promenade offer snacks, food, and drinks, as well as restrooms. Umm Suqeim park, directly behind the beach, also houses a restaurant with restroom facilities. A unique feature is the beach library where you can borrow books for free to read on the beach or on beanbags located nearby.

Night Swimming

Swimming in the sea after sunset is prohibited in Dubai, but Umm Suqeim Beach is an exception. Along with a few other beaches, it features special "Smart Power" light poles allowing night swimming. The "Night Swimming Dubai" project, launched in 2017, has since become a favorite activity for both locals and tourists. These 12-meter tall light poles, powered by solar panels and wind turbines, are located at Umm Suqeim 1 Beach, about 1 km from the Burj Al Arab. The poles illuminate a 125-meter stretch of beach and 30 meters of sea. At midnight, the lights automatically turn off, and swimming is prohibited.

Visiting

The beach is situated in the Umm Suqeim district, adjacent to the notable Jumeirah Beach Hotel, near the Wild Wadi Waterpark and the Burj Al Arab. To find it, simply follow signs to the Burj Al Arab and drive past the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Limited paid parking is available, so using a taxi, public transportation, or the Big Bus hop-on tour is advisable. If you're taking the Dubai metro, get off at the First Gulf Bank (First Abu Dhabi Bank) stop on the red line. From there, a taxi is recommended, as it's over 4 km to the beach.

Beach Rules

When on Dubai's beaches, adhere to specific rules. Topless or nude sunbathing is prohibited. Swimming after sunset in the sea is not allowed. Taking pictures of individuals on the beach is forbidden, although general shots are usually fine. Regarding attire, the beach attire is similar to European beaches. You'll see women in bikinis or swimsuits, men in short or long trunks, and occasionally women in burkinis. However, wearing beachwear beyond the beach premises is frowned upon. If you're venturing elsewhere, wear appropriate clothing.
